Burning Man Placement Team Patches

Check out this case study of a project I did that was commissioned by the Burning Man PEERS team. Also, this is my first Dribbble post!!!!

The volunteer's job is to go around Black Rock City, check in with select theme camps, and collect valuable feedback as to how the overall neighborhoods are doing.

In our feedback sessions, we landed on using a maze as the grounding element of the design to represent the "exploration" side of the team and use the chatting speech bubbles to represent the "engagement" part of job. The rest of the design was tied together with the PEERS acronym and the final deliverable was a little over 4.25" in diameter. The edges were finished with a technique called "hot knife" that allows the outer edges of the patch to have complex shapes. It also has "partial embroidery" which allows for the twill (the backing) to show through and add some dimension between elements—this technique also saves on thread which drives down the cost.

Lastly, there we some discrepancies with the final thread colors because I left that up to the Alibaba manufacture to decide due to the fact I didn't have a physical copy of the swatch kit. I have since acquired a copy of one that was delivered with this recent order that I'm excited to take advantage on the next project:)
