CeezWatch (MOBILE/DESKTOP)
Technology keeps developing everyday. It is amazing how Movie technology evolved. From cassette tapes, to video compact discs (VCDs), to digital versatile discs (DVDs), to downloading movies on the internet and sending them through Flash drives, now we most likely stream movies with apps. More than 70% of users no longer watch movies on TV stations. Movie, sports, music, is streamed nowadays using mobile apps/websites. Today, I'm happy to introduce CeezWatch, one of such apps used for streaming movies.
Problem Statement
Younger users are having trouble transitioning from their parents profiles to their own. Users as young as 4 have their own profiles so they can access family friendly content, but sometimes it takes more than 10-12 movements on their controller to get to a hidden profile switch screen.
We have hundreds of user interviews and user research. All signs point to younger users (4-8) having a difficult time finding where the profile section lives in the application.
Risks and Rewards
There is risk that Parents will get frustrated and unsubscribe from our streaming service. We will lose revenue from our inability to solve this small problem.
We expect subscriptions will stop dropping from households with young children if the parents and kids have a smoother experience sharing the streaming service in the home. This is rewarding.
Project Goals
Some of the goals of this project include:
1. Users must be able to switch profiles within 6 actions from anywhere in the app
2. A confirmation screen that profiles have been switched is required
3. Also there must be a visual difference between the interface for adults and the interface for kids
User Research
As usual, the users are the primary concern of any product. As earlier mentioned hundreds of kids were interviewed. Giving similar responses, I arrived at the persona above
Market Research
Already existing firms that provide streaming service were found; Netflix, Nonton, etc. Would it be good for business? It was later discovered that some features were missing in the other apps, which if added to CeezWatch, would be good for business.
User flow
User flow is the path the user takes to accomplish a task. A simple user flow was made for CeezWatch. This flow is for users that already have a CeezWatch profile. Subsequently other flows were designed. This is the main flow. Users can select who is watching then go home, select the movie they want to watch and then watch till they finish it or get tired of watching or sleep off. This flow solves the problem of switching profile as, the user will be able to select their profile once the app is launched.

10 paper wireframes were drawn, and the best items were combined to form one wireframe for the mobile version

Prototype
Prototyping CeezWatch was the most remarkable process of the design. It was quite amazing to watch the app come alive.

Usability testing
The prototype link was sent, and about 20 users tested remotely and unsupervised.
Users were asked to:
1. Use Francis' profile to access blooper page, and "haha" 5th wave blooper
2. From Francis' profile switch to Jenny's profile
3. Set a reminder for an upcoming movie in any profile (Francis or Jenny)
Feedback
1. All users were able to carry out activity 1
2. Took users a while to figure out. But it was an easy process for activity 2
3. Users accomplished activity 3 with relative ease!
Future Roadmaps
The app could be updated to give users the ability to posts short videos.
Conclusion
Designing CeezWatch was an amazing experience. I took my time to create a very user-friendly design. Above all, I got more experience. CeezWatch is compactable on all devices.
