Algae Sneaker Illustration Process

Here's a step-by-step look at the process behind this illustration. The original image was a dimly lit iPhone portrait. To hide some of the imperfections, some newsprint-inspired filtering was added to create a vintage look with intent. I liked the idea of using a turing pattern with this illustration because it felt both biological and resembled the sole of a sneaker. The final touch was playing with how that pattern was used as a mask over an image that felt like a microscopic view of algae.
