Ample Design System | Avatars
Avatar (aka Userpic) — is a component used to represent a user's profile picture.
The earliest use of the term avatar in a computer game was in the 1979 role-playing game Avatar by PLATO, inspired by earlier versions of DnD. The first time it was used to represent the user’s identity onscreen was in Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar in 1985.
Now, in addition to games, avatars are a staple on social media and other virtual platforms. Avatars are often used to help people visually organize comment threads without keeping track of an individual’s name or providing a placeholder identity for users who haven’t uploaded their own personal representation.
The Ample Avatar is a component that is used to represent a user through a profile picture, Image, Initials, or icon. Typically used with a user's profile image, or, in the unavailability of such an image, use the user's initials. A given user's initials the icon should always be visible with the primary color, for consistency.
