My First Website | A Case Study

During my first internship in college, I was assigned to redesign a website for one of our clients. Watching its positive impact on my client and his business made me realize that web design was my path.

Summary

Jason Roseman is the owner of Corporate Hits, an audio production company. Jason was top of his class in college and had a very noticeable talent with audio editing, but he was having a hard time bringing an audience to his portfolio site. After completing a web design consult, it became clear how to help Jason boost his audience and get the engagement his work deserved.

Challenges

Jason's website had fantastic content, but potential clients could not navigate his portfolio due to a lack of web design fundamentals. For example, the website didn't have a brand identity or color scheme; the text was not legible due to background images, and several buttons on the site were not linked to their corresponding pages or actions. We needed the users to be attracted to the site, trust the brand, and find Jason's work quickly.

Solution

The redesign of his site started with some essential UX tools such as creating personas, a decision map, and a S.W.A.T. analysis. We then moved on to the UI side of things and established brand identity, a font hierarchy, and created a wireframe and user flow chart. Completing these steps fixed the issues of the lack of brand identity, illegible text, and non-responsive buttons.

Results

The results of the rebranding were astonishing! Jason's site engagement grew by 700%, and his visitor's time on the website increased by over three minutes. The site changed drastically with just the help of some simple design fundamentals, showing just how important they truly are.

My favorite result of this project was seeing the expression on Jason's face after seeing his high-fidelity wireframe for the first time. It was a great reminder that the term "user" in user experience is much broader than I once assumed.
