Mapping roads using Telemetry data

"Ye shortcut hai"

Have you heard this from your cab driver? I believe most of us would have.

You must have experienced this thing very often. They take these shortcuts that is not the same as the route generated by their Ola/Uber apps.

Ola/Uber presently use Google Maps data for route planning and not every route that drivers take as a shortcut will be shown on Google or Apple Maps. .

Ola/Uber found that 90 out of 100 drivers take a route that is not shown on the map, indicating that there must be a road there.

To improve the experience these missing roads are mapped by using the telemetry data by connecting all lat-longs recorded during the journey.
