Bringing off-line retail experience on-line

In 2013 Russian company Yota Devices released new smartphone with 2 displays. The product was warmly greeted by experts but only few consumers in Russia got the idea of the second screen. The phone was distributed mostly through e-commerce and here we faced a challenge: nobody would buy the new phone online without experiencing it. We should develop a way to try Yotaphone without going offline. We made the remote test-drive possible for thousands of users by creating an extended robotic hand which users could distantly control like their own one. In 3 experiments users could visualize their text messages on the ink display customize the second screen and check battery capacity while reading e-book under any lighting circumstances. After a test drive users could shop online. The project had generated a lot of social media buzz, over 500 000 people had a chance to test the phone.
