Dragon Den Restaurant Website

OVERVIEW

Challenge

A restaurant called Dragon Den which specializes in spicy cuisine needs a website for their restaurant. The challenge is to create a sense of excitement and trepidation that typically comes with eating spicy food through design.

Goal

The goals of this project are:

Highlight the central theme of the restaurant - spice.

Make it easy for users to order food from the website.

Role

This is a solo design project where I was responsible for the visual design and front-end development of the project.

DESIGN PROCESS

The Steps

Define the Problem

User Research

Before the Ideation phase I created a user persona to work from.

Ideation

Visual Research: Colour

The colours I chose were meant to create a feeling of intensity. The main colours are based on peppers' colours: red, yellow and green based on peppers' colours.

Lessons Learned

After the visual design was created, I learned how to use a minimalistic approach to creating the website while still being able to have all the necessary information. I also learned, for future projects, about what design elements don't fit in a web experience.

Front-End Coding

The main goal for me in the development phase of this project was to strengthen my JavaScript skills.

CONCLUSION

Summary

Outcome

The final result is a fully functional website that has a minimalistic look and feel. The website features the ability for users to calculate the price of their order as they select items.

Final Thoughts

Designing the website was a challenging and rewarding journey. While giving me more visual design experience, I got more front-end development experience and it helped me get in the mind of developers more and makes me better able to communicate with them.
