Win Some You Lose Some

Recently I was asked to create 2 logos that had something in common, one for the motion graphics side of the business and the other to represent the client as an art director.

The left is an abstract version of the word Intruder, the top part is a UFO, beaming up the central shape. And the right is the negative space letter A which is the clients initial.

Unfortunately the client did not like the direction. Hence the shots title, you win some, you lose some.

It was a very difficult brief from the beginning. It is very hard to produce an idea when the client has a very specific idea of what they want.

However, I think this solution works really well, in creating a unique set of marks that work together and represent 2 different things.

Just want to offer some advice. You may get it wrong but this happens, it is just the way things are. It is not a measure of your ability or in any way negative towards you as a designer. Keep your chin up and continue doing what you do best.
