Product Design: Amble Dog Care
Project Brief
Dog owners sometimes need help caring for and walking their dogs. Create a service to connect dog owners with dog walkers. Consider how the application can help dog owners trust their dogs are in safe hands.
The themes that emerged from interviews with dog owners showed that owners care most about finding someone they feel safe working with and who will communicate well.
____________
How can trust and communication be built into the application?
How do competitors solve these problems? How do they fall short?
Market research confirmed ideas for features that users will rely on when considering trustworthiness of caretakers; background checks, real-time messages and updates, caretaker reviews, and previous experience metrics.
Anxious Annie was created to empathize with owners main concerns around finding dog care. The persona was used to guide the design process in a user-centered manner.
The onboarding user flow was designed to allow owners to discover caretakers with minimal friction. Rather than immediately requiring registration and profile creation, first-time users are able to search for caretakers by zip code upon entering the app. They are then prompted to sign up throughout their search for a caretaker.
This flow would be the first thing to re-evaluate upon launch based on the number of users that do sign up on the first visit. If many users are leaving without signing up, it may be better to have users sign up immediately upon launching the app.
Sketch, low-fidelity, and high-fidelity wireframing.
Home page evolution
Visual Designs
Design System, UI Kit & Components
Opening screen - Home screen - Caretaker profile
Search filters - Conversation - Pet profile
Map search - Scheduled bookings - Booking modal
A significant way to inspire trust is to enforce that each caretaker on the platform has been background checked.
Landing page documentation - Size, spacing, styles
The project was a complete examination of the Product Design process; research, definition of requirements, ideation, prototyping, testing, refinement, documentation, and measurement.
The exciting part of the product design process involves learning from user-testing and measurement as to how you can improve the product; then ideating new and improved features.
For this application, I would be highly interested in measuring user sign-up among first-time users and seeing how the onboarding process could be improved. Ideas to explore further include owner profile creation, and features that allow owners to build trusting relationships with caretakers.
