Dog Ppl- UI Design

I noticed that Dog Ppl (the very up-my-alley dog park in LA aimed at people who want a social space to hang with their dogs) mentioned that they would be making an app for their members soon. I took a few hours from my day to play around with the concept.

Lo-Fi Sketch

From a very rough sketch I made on the train of what this would look like, I went home and decided to get right to work on a simple task, members being able to check out events being hosted by the park or by members' friends. (This was inspired by the email I got from Dog Ppl about Dogtown Disco and it made me wish I was in LA immediatly)

UI

The first steps were to try to fit the Dog Ppls brand. Very minimal with hints of green to remind us of the turf at a dog park, they also use a lot of scrapbook elements where pictures are torn, and font can appear handwritten. I had to design a few icons to fit this artsy but minimal theme.

I wanted Dog Ppl's app to feel genuinely "members only" It should be a place where members can share photos and moments with other members, feel included in the park entirely, and not be too overwhelming. To start, users can immediately check in when they arrive (as well as view opening hours), view current events, and even make their private ones, as well as order ahead from the cafe to get a coffee or some dog treats.

As dog owners, we've all had the same situation. Our dogs finally meet another dog that matches their energy, but their owner lives far from you. Setting up playdates can seem impossible. The idea behind the main event page was to let members see not only public events happening at the park but also to create doggie playdates with their friends they meet at the park or for any event.

I'm excited to see where Dog Ppl ends with their mobile app in the future and hopefully I can also move to LA soon so I can enjoy this unique take on a dog park for myself.
