A Portal in the Woods

This is a sketch I did when I was stuck in the airport for over 24 hours! I didn't bring a lot for entertainment, but I did have a sketchbook and micron pens. I intentionally limited my materials on that trip to force myself to practice different techniques with the pens. The design was inspired by the balance of nature and civilization, and the idea that all of our cities exist within the natural world while also creating a barrier between themselves and the wild. I used a mix of bold, steady linework and intentionally rough sketching to add shading and dimension to this piece.
