Crime Junkie Podcast App

When I was at Studio Science I had the opportunity to design the first version of the Crime Junkie app that is now available for iOS and Android.

Fans of the show have been listening to the Crime Junkie podcast for years at the point of launch, and many had chosen to get bonus episodes in Patreon. The idea here was that we could create one app that builds the best of both of these platforms into one experience.

The app needed to function in a similar way to a podcast app but with the added benefit of a community and a place to view more in-depth details about the story the Crime Junkie team was sharing. We chose to think of the episode like it's very own place to listen, read, and connect with other fans.

One of the challenges we faced is that a podcast doesn't have a lot of branding needed. In the case of Crime Junkie, they had some marketing images and the name of the show, but that didn't provide us a lot to work with. In my brand exploration I was digging through some previous photoshoots and came across a black and purple theme that really felt like it fit the feel of the show. I worked on an interaction that they loved, and we used it as the visual base to build the app and other experiences.
