Party like it's 1999

Just a lil' something I have been working on for a while now, and finally completed today while recovering from my first COVID infection at home in New Zealand.

I love drawing in illustrator, I start off with an ellipse and go from there. My style is kinda old school, I personally rebel against symmetry lol. My illustrations are usually complex, filled with little easter eggs - they're not designed for a small screen, I like to blow them up to poster size and revel in the detail.

I experimented with various colour schemes, I decided to use a neon palette and editing this within illustrator was a lot of fun, it also adds some randomness to the illustration.

The biggest challenge is capturing the movement and spontaneity of dance while working with vector styled illustration which relies on the manipulation of Bezier curves.

This illustration has utilised a lot of the modify tools in iIllustrator used to manipulate shapes, like hair and various body parts, to make them more random and spontaneous, wave and float.

My aim was to create something that was a lot of fun, slightly twisted and vibrant. I also had to love each and every one of the characters that I created 100% out of my mind.
