Streamtime - Video streaming app

I created a streaming app for a class project with the goal of creating a streaming app that made switching between users easy.

The Problem

A family needs to be able to switch accounts easily in their streaming app so they can enjoy watching their favorite shows.

The Solution

Based on research and comparing the way other streaming apps handle switching between users, I designed an easy, visually intuitive way of solving the problem by doing the following:

1. Make the profile creation process easy and simple.

2. Keep the current profile highly visible.

3. Make it obvious how to switch between profiles.

Who is the User?

The project included a user persona of an 6-year-old girl who wanted to make it easier to watch her own shows.

Other users were assumed to be necessary as well, such as a mother and father.

Designing the app

After a basic understanding of the problem, and an understanding of who the users are and what they want, I began designing the actual visual screens.

The profile creation screen limits the user to two options. Create another profile, or start streaming. Other features and settings are controlled in another window, making it easy to create accounts in the initial startup of the app.

User Flow and Wireframing

Before the screens were visually designed, I developed a user flow and wireframes to guide the process of designing this app.

I mocked up several low-fidelity wireframes to start the design process.

Visual designs and prototyping

After I settled on a basic wireframe, I began to work on the visual design and then finally prototyped the concept into a working model.

Screenshot of a users main page. The ability to change from one profile to another is easily displayed at the top and the process of switching profiles is intuitive.

Final Results

While not a complete, full-featured app. This process helped me to make decisions based on a user base and what they desired. How to apply the solution to a user flow and wireframes. And finally, implementing the solution in the visual designs so that it is practical and accomplishes the goal.

Thank you!
