Gaia is an upscale art noveau-themed wine bar in Charleston, inspired by old-school romanticism and renaissance.  Its goal is to invoke whimsy and relief from the hectic day-to-day.

objective

To create an art noveau-themed bar that marries old sensibilities with modernism.  Using a minimal amount of fine art illustration and ornamental decoration, and a combination of serif and sans-serif fonts to bring it into the new age.

solution

I illustrated a design that was traditionally art noveau and contrasted with modern typefaces, adding a large amount of white space and spacing so it wouldn't feel too cluttered.  The assets can be reused in multiple places, from the leaves, fruits and pieces of the main illustration.  All together the effect creates whimsical refinement.
