Virtual Reality

I just acquired DK2 from Oculus Rift, and it has been an amazing and mind-bending experience to design UI for it. I still have a lot to experiment with! This shot is just the beginning of my experimentation. I will be posting many more designs for VR.

Virtual Reality has amazing potential for a new functional medium for computers. The usable region of any technology is bounded by the user's field of vision, which VR devices like Oculus Rift take full advantage of. This interface could be controlled with a device like Leap Motion. Windows can become like paper; objects that can be rotated, placed, and stored in physical locations in reality.

The top most layer of the interface, app icons and menus, are visible yet slightly out of the user's immediate vision. The user knows these areas exist, and can easily look up or down to interact with them perfectly, although they do not block or interfere with open apps.
