Playbear - A social music app

Playbear is a social music app that allows you to create and share playlists with your friends and anyone else.

Why Playbear?

Finding new music is hard! The first and biggest disadvantage of relying on algorithms to pick new music is that they fail to take into account your personal preference. It’s hard to choose a pleasing song out of millions, but one's best friends are more than capable of doing just that. Music is the most subjective art in existence, and no algorithms can ever substitute for personal taste and judgment.

So what?

If your friends love a song, it is likely that you’d love it too. This is why we created Playbear - the easiest way to create, share and discover new music with anyone, especially your friends. Presented in an easy-to-use interface, you'll find what your friends are playing in seconds. Simply hit ‘share’ to send a playlist directly to a friend for immediate listening!

Design approach

For this design, I went for a careful combination of familiarity and novelty. Familiarity here is represented by combining the aesthetic features and user experience of two of the most used apps in social media and music - Twitter and Spotify. The aim is shorten the learning curve for new users as much as possible. In order to achieve this goal, I decided to combine these two apps' most distinctive features: Spotify's customizability with Twitter's simple user interface. The idea of finding new music based on the taste of close friends contributes some novelty to the design.
