Portrait of Daffy

So, Daffy and I went to high school back in the day. We got into different colleges and lost all contact. After a couple of years, Daffy contacted me out of the blues asking for a head shot session for a new acting role he was going to be auditioned for.

It was exciting working with an old friend, so when he came to the studio, I was quickly inspired by his appearance and character.

I knew right off the bat that I did not want any other distraction like elements in the background, I wanted his facial features to do all the talking. I started off with one huge soft octa, I switched my Nikon D700 to manual mode because I really wanted to control the light, dropped down a white seamless and moved him further away from it to achieve a gray background....I didn't have that laying around the studio...lol

The first few shots were bang on but I needed to squeeze in a fill light to open up the shadows in the areas backing the light. My large double sized reflector came in handy. I used the silver side and tilted it ever so slightly so it didn't reflect much.

I had him gaze into nothing because it seemed so surreal at the time and I wanted to capture that moment. It was great fun catching up and working with Daffy on this project.
