Braun SK-55 made in Sketch
Sketchmorphism challenge
While Skeuomorphism isn't really as cool anymore, I believe knowing how to make these things is important for all UI designers. Many of the techniques can be tweaked and modified to match the most modern, recent styles as well and just having those skills can give you better understanding of how to create something new and exciting.
For my Sketchmorphism challenge I created the Braun SK-55 record player, designed by Dieter Rams and Hans Gugelot in 1956! It featured a Radio and a Record Player and compared to the highly ornamented, decorative products of that time it was a huge contrast with its minimal lines and beautiful aesthetic.
It was dubbed the "Snowwhite's coffin" because of a translucent plexiglass cover on top of the device.

The first step in creating a Skeuomorphic design like that is taking a source photo and re-tracing every object and every shadow. The example above shows how I did it.
I happen to also own the SK-55 so I could use some of my angled, personal photos as a reference for elements that were too low resolution in the initial photo.
Recreating the dial was especially challenging because of a lot of unexpected text positions - some bands were only 20khz apart yet had a completely different spacing on the dial.
This took a lot of trial and error.
And of course one final shot with a record from one of my favorite bands (Skinny Puppy) on top of the player, ready to be started.
