7 Minute Chi - Concept & Design

Concept and design of 7 Minute Chi, chosen by Apple as Best New App in 2016. Created with and for my teacher, Master Li Jian Long. Actually we were working on Taichi Temple (the first motion sensor app for tai chi) and I told him that most people hate training and maybe we could win them over if they only had to commit to 7 minutes... we couldn't stop laughing. He said 三个臭皮匠顶个诸葛亮 (translation: 3 stinky cobblers can surpass Zhu Ge Liang) Zhu was one of the greatest strategists in Chinese history, the original Crouching Tiger... so if we could pull this off we would be more clever than Zhu... Long story short, this quick one off we did between making the "real" stuff turned out to be our most successful app, currently the #1 app for tai chi on the App Store.

I worked remotely with a iOS programmer, the brilliant Maya Milusheva of Bulgaria, and what was cool was that the Apple watch had just come out so I knew we had to make the app work beautifully for the Apple watch. We would work on this project day and night and checking builds at 3 in the morning and talking on Skype. I was in Prague and Maya was in Sofia, Bulgaria. I bought my first Apple watch as a testing device... the most expensive toy I owned. Our work got recognized by Technogym and we ended up getting to the finals of the Technogym Innovation Challenge and met each other in person for the first time in Venice to pitch. We didn't know if we would win so we went to celebrate in Venice with wine and pasta because we had made it to the finals. We ended up winning. I made 3 apps that were featured by Apple as Best New App. All of them I made with Maya. Grrrl power, indeed.
