Case Study: UCLA Career Opportunities Web Unsolicited Redesign

Case study of an unsolicited redesign of a website UX/UI

Brief

Redesigning the home page and job search user flow on the UCLA Career Opportunities website.

Background

While UCLA has a careers page in keeping with its branding to inform applicants about working at UCLA, in order to search for jobs, view job summaries, and apply to jobs, applicants are redirected to the Human Resources career opportunities site. The site as it exists is thoroughly informative and a one-stop shop to apply to careers at UCLA. However, the user experience and visual design aren’t in keeping with the streamlined UCLA brand.

Roles

Strategy, UX Research, UI/UX Design, Wireframing, Prototyping, Interaction Design, Hi-Fidelity Mockups

Takeaways

With the hi-fi prototype in hand we presented it to 6 users with previous experience with the existing website for usability testing in an unmoderated usability study format.

1) 6 out of 6 users were able to navigate the prototype with ease

2) 5 out of 6 users were satisfied with the overall user flow

3) 5 out of 6 user were positively impacted by the new visual design

In summation, this unsolicited redesign resulted in a 50% increase in user satisfaction.
