Website Redesign - Ipso Facto

This was done as a practice case study, rather than at the request of the client.

The challenge- Ipso-facto is a gothic alternative clothing store located in Fullerton, CA with a website riddled with broken links and a format woefully out of date. I took it upon myself to streamline, modernize and update their platform while still remaining true to their old school gothic origins. Their website is clunky, confusing and incredibly difficult to navigate. If it had not mentioned covid and a copyright date, I would have assumed it was no longer active or being maintained. You can see the original website here: ipso-facto.com

The Results- The site needed a full overhaul, everything from the font and color selection, to layout and general functionality. The lack of contrast between the text and background made it difficult and exhausting to try and decipher. The flow was confusing and cumbersome, barraging you with every piece of information available. This overwhelms the user, making it increasingly more difficult to make any choices. A huge element of the gothic aesthetic is opulence. It is very easy to miss the mark and over-do things, resulting in a gaudy and cluttered mess, as can be seen in the shifting header and unfixed background on the original site. My complete overhaul includes a mobile site, ft custom social media icons, a new color scheme, typography, while utilizing the existing photography (taken by owner) and some very light copywriting.
