The Bellforge Arts Center of Massachusetts
Brand identity, art direction & graphic design for the Bellforge Arts Center. Once a hospital district in Medfield, Massachusetts, it closed down in the early 2000's and was acquired by the commonwealth. After years of planning, it was reimagined into a cultural district for the Northeast region that would house art education, community events, entertainment, and wellness activities for the greater Boston area. The community is located on a stunning 80-acre landscape along the Charles River, which prolific painters and artists have historically cited as a cathartic place of personal inspiration and refuge. The city also houses some of the oldest buildings in America. Opened for the public in April 2022.
The design was a 7-month process which engaged several community and board members, 3rd party production teams, the community commonwealth and various research initiatives. We worked with the BAC team in their early creative development and naming process, then transitioned into a formal design project to capture the story of the location through the branding and position the district to be a regional arts center available to families + contemporary Boston artists.
