As I am progressing along in my learning journey as a designer, every day seems like you are starting over because of how much there is to learn. Why is that ? Things are not designed to just meet our personal design vision, or to make a problem solved look "asthetically pleasing". Design goes ways beyond that. A new design comes into existence to portray a problem in such a hierarchical manner that the user realizes what to look for through the design itself. Designer plays a bigger role then just laying out a pretty color palete and patterns on a blank screen. Designer helps the user see, walk through, understand and discover solution to a problem let it be from something as small as online grocery shopping to something global and priceless as helping people in need; all through the design.
I used a darker palete to less highlight the pain that these images portray and added pop of a green color to buttons (donate, sponsor, campaign) that portray as doorway to helping these people and adding color to their lives. Its the small things that speak volumes to the user and places their focus in chronological order of importance on they things they should be noticing prominently.
