This infographic is compromised of the average recorded speeds at the Tour de France over the last 62 years. Controversy aside, the overall speed of the stages and the race as a whole have increased dramatically over time. Throughout the history of the Tour, technology, training, the ever changing courses and of course performance enhancing substances have played a part in the increase in average speeds. At the end of the day there are still human beings enduring the equivalent of a 5-7 hour Super Bowl everyday consecutively for three weeks.
