I don't know what it is about Into the Woods and me.

I'm not in love with the play. I don't walk around singing any of the songs. I haven't watched the movie more than once. There is nothing that I feel draws me to this particular play but there is something that draws that play to me. I have worked on three separate Into the Woods sets. Two times as the Set Director.

Most recently, my name was passed around the civic theater circles and I got introduced to Rockwall Summer Musicals. They required a last-minute set designer for their first production of the summer, INTO THE WOODS.

I agreed and set to work on a massive set full of moving trucks and constant set changes. The stage was three times larger at least than the other plays I had worked on. I had wonderful helpers and a baller lighting designer, Kyle Harris, who took my brown and gray set and made it technicolor.

The foliage was created from camo netting I cut and painted to give even more dimension and color. The trees were built out of several different materials and mounted to the trucks so that for every scene, the trees would move and create another part of the woods. The staircase was made to look like traditional fairytale books opened at the top to let the actors literally walk out of the book and onto the stage. It then came completely off the stage for the second act to represent life after the "happy ending."
