Revamping our data visualization system with the dashboard
Hi Dribbblers 👋
The time has come to make monitoring business performance less stressful and to help our customers stay one step ahead of problems!
To design our new dashboard we created a set of data visualizations. Whose purpose is to tell a story using data that resonates with each of our customers.
To achieve this goal and choose the right representations, we defined a set of rules. Here are some of those principles:
1. Use the proper chart based not on its visual aspects, but rather its function, such as:
• Line charts to allow for the displaying of a continuous data series over a period of time
• Donut charts to clearly show proportions
• Combo line-column charts to highlight or contrast key figures and an overall trend
2. Keep it simple
By default, the dashboard contains no more than 5-9 visualizations. As defined by the Miller law in cognitive psychology, the human brain can only comprehend around 7 (± 2) images at one time.
3. Don’t forget animations
To grab the attention of our users and help them better understand how their data is interrelated.
