3D Interface and "Shelf"

When we interact with physical objects like paper we never see them from a perfectly orthogonal view: they are generally slanted or rotated in 3D space. Applying this idea to apps on a computer creates a very unique interface. Users can multitask better with the ability to slant windows in any direction. The same idea can apply to interface elements, imagine being able to scroll in 3D through a list of icons or music. 3D apps also create a pattern of moving apps which scales perfectly into virtual reality. VR is the next step in mobile devices: it would be cool to add a full computer interface to glasses, controlled with hand gestures and superimposed into reality. Apps would become more like objects, or paper, just part of life.

I have added 3D windows into the prototype using leap motion. Users can rotate the window by rotating their hand. I hope to post a demo with Oculus Rift and leap motion, to show a full 3D UI.

The idea of a "shelf" is something I want every day. Rather than the traditional copy and paste clipboard setup users could drag items onto shelf and drag multiple copies of the item off of it.
