Dog Walking App Design: jolly

This project was apart of the learning process of the dribbble product design course. The complete product design lifecycle was utilized from research all the way to interactive prototypes.

Why Another Dog Walking App?

Through user research and a market analysis it was discovered that there was a few key players in the dog walking app marketing place. Some wanted to form a community, while others seemed to have high fees for both walkers and pet owners. According to pet owner research, most people just need last minute booking or booking for planned travel, not necessarily on-going walks. Many of the current online tools seems to focus on continual and frequent services. Most pet owners also needed to know who was walking their pet and have a level of trust with them.

Snippet of User Research Summary

Market Research Snippet

User Flow Discovery

Utilizing the research a user flow diagram was created to discover what screens and actions were needed in the new app environment.

Wireframing

Through multiple iterations of wireframes the project was able to form a more simplified and clear approach. Some ideas were too cluttered or confusing and they were eliminated early on.

Design Phase

A brand was created for the app, jolly, and colors were carefully chosen to steer clear of greens. Green was the main colors being used by most other pet sitting apps. So to differentiate our product visually I went a different direction with style, language, colors, and tone.

Fun Language

Communicating clearly, but in a playful tone.

Bold Colors

High contrast but approachable color themes.

Solution Summary

Even though there are some successful dog walking apps in the marketplace, there is room for another with some key differences.

  • Low cost for both walkers and pet owners

  • Trustworthy local walkers and sitters

  • Ability to book same person each time

The technology is already out there, the difference can come in the actual way the business is operated and how oversight on the community of walkers is maintained to build trust on the platform.
