Palm Jumeirah, United Arab Emirates

One crop page of new upcoming book "Islands": Palm Jumeirah, United Arab Emirates.

“This unusual group of islands sits under the sweltering desert sun of western Asia. When you look at it from above. you can see it's almost perfectly symmetrical - and shaped just like a palm tree! This is because it's manmade. Before the year 2001, there was nothing here but seawater and sand. Then a huge team of builders and divers brought in sand. dredged from the sea floor, and millions of tons of rocks, blasted out of a nearby mountain range, to construct the islands that we see today.”
