Logo Concept for a Hawai’i Island company that makes & shares exquisite rum while celebrating the richness of local culture & heritage.

Kuleana Rum Works is a thriving small business established in 2013. It uses the best high-quality ingredients on Earth to create sugar, artificial coloring & artificial flavoring-free drinks.

The client envisioned a voyaging canoe (vaka), which was historically relied upon as the only way to travel between islands and provide food for the locals. It symbolizes unity & ancestral wisdom working together for a sustainable future.

To establish the link between the past & the present, I created a hand-drawn design that combines modern & vintage elements. Purple is chosen as the main color as it’s the color of Kauai (one of Hawai’i islands) and the condensed sans serif font adds to the modern & friendly vibe.
