NFT Retrieval States

Fetching NFT metadata from the blockchain can take quite some time. Users might get frustrated waiting for their collectibles to show up (we've encountered some with hundreds of megabytes in size).

To combat this issue, we've implemented two loading states to better show loading progression, and scale-down some image formats on-the-fly for the library view.

Sometimes we come along some very "exotic" NFTs that have questionable image formats, or their centralized links to the artwork have gone offline. For these use-cases, we've implemented a subtle, but yet visible error state.

To further increase loading speed, we cache our users NFT metadata on "old-school" centralized hardware; speeding up their recurring views of their portfolio!

Especially with slower blockchains, we've found this to be very effective.

Visually, we wanted the loading and error states to be visible, yet subtle. There's nothing more disturbing than having ugly loading or error states in between one's beautiful collection of digital art!
