Challenge the Status Quo

Each member of our design team was tasked with a developing a type-based piece featuring NJI's company’s motto: Challenge the Status Quo.

The inspiration for this gif came from flipping through a book at my favorite cafe where I read, "Design is the ritual of a hopeful society" - Dieter Rams

To me, this animation shows the ongoing struggle of shifting the environment around us. I feel like challenging the status quo is all about optimism in action—a true love for your fellow humans means always putting people first. I would love to see more designers reject the idea that the avant-garde has to be shrouded in cynicism. In fact, Rams would insist that indifference towards people and the reality in which they live is actually the one and only cardinal sin in design!
