San Diablo All Stars album cover

This project was extremely important to me. A friend and client who inspired me to get into design had told me about this group he had formed, the concept of the album, and sent me a few tracks. He never knew visually what he wanted with most projects and would leave that up to me. I had a few concepts right away and given the nature of the sound of the album and his style historically I wanted to take some elements from the 70's pop culture. That was where the color layers and border came from, reminiscent of the classic style of baseball cards from that era. I wanted to create something unique and vector for the main image and seeing how they are base in San Diego, California I thought I would come up with a vector skyline of the city. I remember thinking immediately that given the nature of the record label and the project itself I thought of a flash of a Carlos Castenada book I had seen probably 20 years ago for 10 seconds and knew I wanted to create something similar in color and almost as surreal.
