Shopify Summit 2022
Summit is Shopify’s annual internal conference where leadership and talent from across the organization come together and share context, goals and excitement for what’s to come.
This year, we created our second remote experience for Summit — where we communicated through a feature documentary. The narrative follows the singular journey of a product — a bottle of olive oil. Through this story, the film unpacks the vulnerability and resiliency of the commerce system.
Summit 2022’s visual direction uses the viscous quality of olive oil as a base for the visuals, without making it too obvious. The illustrated moments can range from abstract to representational. The motion graphics are wavy and distorted. Together these characteristics create lush scenes with energy and movement. This visual approach was applied to animations, data visualization, illustrations, a remote viewing platform, movie poster, and a ton of merchandise… we even made an NFT.
