Birding App Concept: Citizen Science

I’m so excited to share with you an app concept inspired by eBird.

eBird is an online database of bird observations that provides scientists, researchers and amateur naturalists with real-time data about bird distribution and abundance.

Citizen Science

What makes this app (and others like it) so special to me is that it allows the public to gather and access data on biodiversity for use in science. This form of “citizen science” enables those who have a desire to advance research to contribute to a project that will benefit from their energy and dedication.

Citizen science encourages people to take a stake in the world around them.

The results of research gained through projects like this have been used to inform local policies, enhance education initiatives, conserve natural resources, and support environmental sustainability.

eBird launched in 2002 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology at Cornell University and the National Audubon Society.
