El Mesón

Today we launched El Mesón Pink Bourbon, the Capsules Edition of Colonna’s sixth Limited Release. It is a rare cross of Red and Yellow Bourbon varieties, discovered after a devastating rust outbreak (a disease affecting the coffee plant) between 2008-2010 in Huila, Colombia, being the only trees to survive the plague.

For the design I combined red and yellow in an abstract 3D circle/tube framed by a larger pink version of the same shape. When layered together in this way, the combination of colours match the soft, pale pink tone of the cherries that were found on the original surviving trees. It also represents the hybridisation of coffee varieties and the layers of complexity both in the story and flavour profile of this coffee. It’s bright and glowing on a dark background just as the trees of Pink Bourbon remained standing strong amidst the devastation back in 2010.

Yet another really interesting story and delicious coffee to continue the series.
