Briseis of Ilion

Been doing a lot of reading on the Iliad and the Late Bronze Age Collapse the past few months, and Briseis has always been a really interesting figure to me given her narrative importance but lack of actual autonomy in the stories that have made their way to the modern day. This was just a painting I did to satisfy my recent fascination, she's wearing earrings inspired by some Hellenistic iridescent glass earrings in the Met's collection, but I made them crocuses because crocus flowers symbolize rebirth or new beginnings. And she's standing in front of a funerary pyre, for added drama. The hair, of course, took the longest to render, but it was pretty therapeutic honestly!
