The palette and shapes drew from the visuals of a mangosteen—one of my favourite fruits from my time spent in Malaysia. The "inner fruit" portion takes cues from traditional Chinese motifs but particularly, the 5-petaled plum blossom.
Various symbols of luck across cultures are blended together. Wishing upon a star (or two) and more recently, crossing one's fingers are common in the West. While the fruit of a mangosteen can be divided into 5 pieces, I used 6 due to its similarities in pronunciation to "luck" in Chinese. Higher divisions are usually rarer which is also true of the plum blossom.
Though I'd argue much of what's behind a "green thumb" is largely backed by the skill of the gardener, the given weather of a growing season can be up to chance (especially in our current climate situation...) Either way, good luck growing!
