A flywheel is a heavy revolving wheel in a machine that accumulates kinetic energy during normal engine operation. The flywheel is used to increase the machine’s momentum and thereby provide:

1) greater stability during operation

2) a reserve of available power during interruptions

3) a constant speed during acceleration or deceleration.
