In observing our existing physical environment, things tend to lose their meaning because we have grown overly familiar with them. We tend to disengage from our surroundings, forgetting the essential beauty in what we perceive. This project aimed to utilize the making process as a procedure for rediscovering the essential nature of these neglected things. The act of making or modifying a mundane object/material/method can serve as a means for revealing what has been hidden by too much familiarity. In the process of making, designing, and carefully observing, familiar meanings disappear and are replaced by a deeper understanding of the relationship between component parts, maker and object, user and object, and object and its environment. The meanings associated with such commonplace objects are transformed, producing a rich understanding of their essential qualities.

The design of all contents in this book, including photography and furniture have all been designed and curated by me, Alan D'Amore – at the end of the study, a formal presentation was held at MBUS in Miami Beach, Lincoln Road.
