Ambulancer - life saving app
Saving time is the first step in saving lives.
In my country - Poland in over 20 percent of cases, ambulances do not arrive on time. During an emergency situation, every second is important. I wanted to make an app that shortens the waiting time for an ambulance and will help the user in this hard and stressful time.
I started the project with a research phase. Having experienced emergency situations myself, I knew what I wish I could do during those situations but my experience wasn’t enough. I needed to be sure that there was a problem that was going to solve because this will enable me to know features to be thrown in the bin and features to bring onboard.
I began with a lot of desktop research before moving to in-person interviews. I interviewed ten people for the research but the insights I got were very broad because I made sure to carry out a diverse interview process.
During the interviews, the most frequently mentioned problems that people experienced when ordering an ambulance were: long waiting time for an ambulance, lack of knowledge about the waiting time for an ambulance, long process of obtaining information about the caller, a problem with identifying one's own location, feeling of powerlessness, lack of knowledge about the waiting time for an ambulance, lack of first aid skills and knowledge.
According to research, I gain I decided to design an app that works on with the user during all stages of an emergency situation.
Key decisions made backed by the research phase:
-User needs to be logged and verified to order an ambulance, so the whole process of gaining information about the person who’s ordering an ambulance can be skipped and the ambulance can leave the hospital faster.
-The app connects you immediately with a dispatcher via audio or video call so the dispatcher can actually make sure that an emergency situation is actually happening (app can prevent unnecessary requests) and also let paramedics know what to expect.
-Ambulancer allows users to order ambulances based on the current location, so it can save some time, especially because people in stressful situations might find it hard to explain their location.
-It also shows where is an ambulance and the estimated arrival time of an ambulance so the user can be sure that the ambulance is on the way. It also can be helpful while first aid and can avoid unnecessary calls to the hospital.
-Ambulancer allows users to send an SOS message (containing the user’s current location) to loved ones (ICE contacts) if they are ordering an ambulance for themselves. Based on their location, information will be updated, so a family can go straight to the hospital.
-Based on the gained information, after sending an ambulance, the dispatcher can turn in first aid tips (such as CPR or recovery position) or users can turn those tips by themselves as well. So the app can work and a first aid helper, for example in a situation when somebody already called an ambulance.
-App allows users to speak to a medical professional/paramedic in the ambulance and in consequence - the medical professional/paramedic knows what to expect while arriving and the user can get some tips from them.
Let me know what you think about this. I hope you like it. Feel free to feedback and please press "L" if you like it ❤ Enjoy!
