Birmingham Squadron

With the 2021-22 NBA G League season kicking off tonight, here’s the logo I created with RARE Design for the New Orleans Pelicans affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron. Aside from being able to riff on the Pels’ identity I helped create almost 10 years ago, it was fun to infuse this logo with some elements appropriate for Birmingham. The star and gear are taken from the city flag (the gear symbolizing the Iron City), as are the red, white and gold. The top of the star and two bottom points hint at the Vulcan’s spear, a symbol of Birmingham. The name (“Squadron” is a group of Pelicans), the beveled wings and crescent ball are a nod to the parent club as well.
