Kern and wood burn

Reclaimed steel frame + wood from an old bowling alley lane + wood burned custom type = pretty awesome coffee table. This is collaboration between me and my buddy Josh, who does welding and fabrication. We are submitting this to a charity auction. Obviously this is still a WIP. I will post a rebound when we're finished.

Any suggestions for a way to coat the surface without making it super thick and glossy?
