Taft and the Carabao #3: Creature Carabao

I was feeling uppity while on vacation.

I found a really silly photo of then Ohio governor William Howard Taft sheepishly astride a carabao (not caribou, but a smaller-sized water buffalo). It struck me as a visual metaphor for how I feel about Cincinnati (since Taft was from there), so as an exercise I tried riffing on the picture of them.

Interestingly, I started really emphasizing with the two: In the picture, Taft has an expression of "Oh dear God, they're taking a picture of this...", and the carabao just looks pained. The further I 'riffed', the more benignly I wanted to treat the two. I ended up wanting them to have a relationship like in John Muth's Zen Shorts book, where a giant panda spends an idyllic summer day(s?) with kids - Taft and the carabao should be good friends, and enjoy each others' company.

Feel free to help me out! Here's the original image: http://www.philippine-history.org/images/Willam-Howard-Taft.jpg
