#DidYouKnow that the first #Pride parade was a protest? It took place just one year after the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, a pivotal event in the Gay Liberation movement. At the time, LGBT bars were constantly raided for illegal “homosexual behavior”.
While our Pride parades today are filled with love and rainbows, it’s important to remember where we started–with brave trans women of color, taking a stand in a NYC dive bar.
