War of the Worlds, Concept Cover

A university brief to create a contemporary cover for some of H.G. Wells books. This particular cover was designed with the idea of clashing in mind, the clashing of worlds, not just in the books story, but with Wells views on socialism, class and so much more clashed at the time with the popular beliefs, and with todays political landscape, in many respects still does.

With Wells having differing views at the time of invasions by the British Empire, the slow creep of the books 'red weed' along the calm of the blue was not only a design on the Martian invasion, but to Well's thoughts on the British Empire.

The title is such an incredible and bold statement that it felt just right to shout the words 'war' and 'worlds'. Making it a sans serif typeface offers a more contemporary feel, as opposed to placing it in time, which overall, I feel brings the ideas of Wells thoughts back into current time. As researching his thoughts and the books themes, it all appears still very relevant today.
