Design for Deploying Applications in Kommander
The following designs showcase a recently released workflow around deploying applications to clusters in D2iQ’s Kommander product. The Applications page for a workspace was revamped to streamline accessing, managing, and deploying applications for Kubernetes operators and infrastructure administrators.
The deployment user experience was greatly enhanced by providing a catalog-like user experience where users can get more information about an application before deployment such as overview information, key features, and links to resources for deployment and utilization.
A new object ‘Stack’ was also introduced to applications for Kommander. A stack of applications is a collection of 2 or more applications that are deployed together under a single configuration for ease of deployment and dependency management.
Once applications are deployed, they are visible at the cluster level and if they have any external dashboards, they can easily be navigated to from a cluster’s detail page.
Designs were tested with existing users to ensure key feedback could be incorporated before release, as well as tracked for future versions.
I worked closely with another product designer @Daniel Schwartz on this project.
