Eve and the apple
As a child, I was very disturbed by the story of Adam and Eve. How can it be wrong to strive for knowledge and insight? It is also confusing that as a child you are often told these Bible stories in a literal sense. Then you sit there as a girl in the 3rd grade and ask yourself whether God actually thinks it's good that girls also go to school. I understood pretty quickly that this kind of religion had nothing to offer me.
So I liked to imagine the stories a little differently. Eve did not let herself be "seduced" by the snake but strove for knowledge. Adam was just a follower and God was not in control of his feelings. Who throws his children out of the house at the slightest misstep? God could have learned a thing or two from my parents. No wonder Eve got fed up and ran away with the apple.
